Buddhist Monk Pictures Taken In Ming Dynasty Hall Of Shaolin Temple.

The foot of a Buddhist Monk increases a depression in the brick floor of a Ming Dynasty Hall, at the Shaolin Temple. The depression was caused not by the foot of one Buddhist Monk, but by the feet of many Buddhist Monks over the centuries. The Qian Fu Dian is one of only two buildings which survived a devastating fire at the Shaolin Temple in 1928 under the direction of General Shi You Shan. On the walls of the Hall are Frescoes showing "500 People Together Worshipping The Buddha."

Li Jin Long demonstrates the way a Buddhist Monk would perform a particular Kung Fu exercise. The Buddhist Monk would end the exercise by forcefully stamping the floor with his foot. Li Jin Long's movements were too swift to follow with the camera, so the first and last photo of the series are posed photos. By his facial expressions one can see how much energy and effort a Buddhist Monk applies to his Kung Fu exercises. The first Buddhist Monk to stamp his foot at this particular position, would not have known the affect each succeeding Buddhist Monk would have helped to create.
