Dalian, a city on a Chinese peninsular, attracts people for many different reasons. Japanese and Korean business men fly to Dalian to carry out their transactions, stay in Dalian Hotels such as the Gloria Plaza Hotel, and often continue their business discussions in the hotel lobbies. Other people visit Dalian on holidays, spending some time on the Dalian beaches, or swimming in the crystal clear sea water. How might they describe Dalian ? Prosperous Dalian; Modern Dalian; Beautiful Dalian; Interesting Dalian Three Arch Gate, might be some of their responses, depending on their reasons for going to Dalian in the first place.

Flying to Dalian from Beijing, the approach was from the sea with views of wharves and ships and factory buildings with smoking chimneys. Dalian city was decked with flags, bunting and red lanterns for the celebrations of the Chinese New Year, with more firecrackers than New Year in Beijing. From our room on the top floor of the Gloria Plaza Hotel, we looked down on the Dalian City Square, always free of litter and dominated by a multifaceted glass globe, its panels reflecting an abstract view of its surroundings. Taxis transported us to different scenes, to a golden pebble beach with crystal clear waters, or along a coastal road over the mountains to Constellation Square. From the pictures of Dalian you can enjoy much of a Chinese city with many interesting locations.
